One of O'Reilly's justifications for his network's lacking Iraq coverage is that trying to learn about what's happening in Iraq helps the "terrorists". This from his radio show:

The terrorists are going to set off a bomb every day because they know CNN and MSNBC are going to put it on the air. That’s a strategy for the other side! The terrorist side!

So I guess it's not possible that someone would set off a bomb because — oh, I don't know — they want to kill people? Or maybe out of revenge, retaliation, or as a result of religious and cultural schisms that have existed for centuries? Or maybe because they are sick of living under an occupation that Bush says will last for the next 50 years? Of course not. It's only because they want to get on American TV. Jeez. Why don't they just go on reality shows or video their kids kicking them in the nuts like civilized people do?

Thinking that all violence in Iraq (or "the carnage du jour" as BOR dismissively puts it) occurs only to sway American opinion is ridiculously self-absorbed and simplistic, and it prevents Americans from understanding how complex the situation really is. Just like classifying Sunni insurgents, Shia militias, Al Qaeda, Kurdish separatists etc. as being "terrorists", as if they were all the same. Maybe if Americans understood the shitstorm of forces tearing Iraq apart, they'd realize that we have no business keeping our soldiers in the middle of it. For the next 50 years.

But Fallafel King goes even further in his defense of ignorance:

So next time anyone tries to tell you anything about the violence in Iraq that has not been approved by Papa O'Reilly, they are committing treason and helping terrorists. Stack them in a naked pyramid and ship them off to Gitmo immediately.
