FOX GETS IT WRONG ON GLOBAL WARMING

Global Warming is Real:

The jury is no longer out--scientists agree that global warming is real and is happening now. Direct measurements of surface temperature show that global temperature has been increasing over the last 150 years. In fact, the 1990's was the hottest decade on record. In addition to direct measurements of surface temperature, satellite data, permafrost melt, sea level rise, sea ice melt, and glacial ice melt all show that the earth is warming.

Scientists Do Agree:

Earlier this year the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its third assessment report on climate change. Its conclusions were clear: global warming is unequivocal and there is greater than 90% certainty that this warming is attributable to man-made carbon greenhouse gas emissions. These conclusions were drawn from extensive independent peer-reviewed studies and articles and were endorsed unanimously by the world's governments. There is an overwhelming consensus.

It is Caused by Humans:

Scientists agree: as CO2 concentrations increase, temperature rises. This is the greenhouse effect. Over the last 150 years, mankind's burning of fossil fuels has raised the global concentration of CO2 from 280 ppm to 380 ppm: a rise of 35 %. This rise in human CO2 emissions correlates to the rise in global temperatures.

Fighting Global Warming does not Distract from Fighting Terrorism:

Global warming and global terrorism are not either/or issues: both are serious threats and both deserve ample attention. We can and must address both; they are not mutually exclusive causes. If anything, weaning ourselves from foreign fossil fuels might lesson our susceptibility to terrorist attack. Furthermore, a 2007 report by the Military Advisory Board concludes that the destabilizing effects of global warming will lead to an increase in extremist ideologies and world terrorism.

FOX Has a Long Way to Go:

Rupert Murdoch has taken steps in the right direction, publicly recognizing the threat of global warming and the need for a global response, and vowing to use his media outlets to change the way people view global warming. Mr. Murdoch is not keeping his word. FOX News -- which Murdoch owns -- continues to distort facts, perpetuate lies, make personal attacks against environmentalists, and endorse the view that global warming is a hoax. Given the broad and varied support for global warming, this kind of coverage is misleading and totally unacceptable.

That's why a coalition of environmental, religious and social activists are joining forces to ask businesses committed to environmental stewardship and stopping global warming, to pull their advertising from FOX until its coverage reflects reality.
